We often rely on simplified ideas of ourselves and others to relate. Statements like "I am" suggest certainty and permanence in a world of change while affording confidence and a sense of belonging, but can be limiting. Imagine what our introductions, relationships, and conversations would be like if we shared our true selves. Adam Moen is founder and principal at Real EmPowerment Solutions, a healthcare startup and strategy consulting firm (repsolutions.co). He also is founder of Marblesapp, which
offers free, 24/7 mental and emotional health support. His personal experiences with depression, mental health, and peer support have led him to evaluate how our society defines mental health, connection, and ourselves. He wants to lower the barrier to accessing meaningful connection, use social media for good, and bring forth the best ways to empower people through digital and in- person experiences. This talk was given at a TEDx event using the TED conference format but independently organized by a local community. Learn more at
