Sermon by Charla Belinski Assistant Pastor Snowmass Chapel Sermon Notes: 1. “I have so much more to tell you….but you can’t bear it now.” (John 16:12) a. Your heavenly Father knows that you need all these things, but strive first for the kingdom of God and his righteousness, and all these things will be given to you as well. So do not worry about tomorrow, for tomorrow will bring worries of its own. Today’s trouble is enough for today.” (Matthew 6:34) b. Disciples had many great things that would come and many hardships. Knowing the future would be too much to bear. c. Jesus reassures them that the Holy Spirit will be with them and will guide them to all truth. d. The Holy Spirit speaks for Jesus, and Jesus and God are one, so the Holy Spirit is speaking to you as God. e. Emmanuel, God with us. 6. On Pentecost, the Holy Spirit was on the move, transforming a shy, scared group of followers into agents of change. The Holy Spirit had entered into them so that God would become born again – only this time not in the flesh, but in the body of Christ, the church. 7. There are not always (if ever) wondrous signs, rushing wind, burning bushes, etc. It doesn’t mean God isn’t capable of it, but we can’t make it happen. All we can do is invite the Holy Spirit in. a. “Come, Holy Spirit.” b. God will give you the words at the right time. For it will not be you who will be speaking, but the Spirit of God speaking through you. (Matthew 10:19) c. The spirit will guide you to all truth. (Matt. 16:13) 4. We have the undeserved privilege of standing confidently and joyfully with God. a. “We know how dearly God loves us because he has given us the Holy Spirit to fill our hearts with love (Romans 5:5).”
