4:10 for maximum bullshit. Poorly written rant below: Let's get one thing out of the way first: This game isn't terrible. All the mechanics of the game work as intended and the game is in no way broken. The problem I have with this game is how incredibly bland it is. It doesn't take place in the alternate reality world of Strangereal like the previous entries have. Instead, we get your standard America-Good, Russia-Bad story outline that's being used by too many games these days. The characters are pretty generic with no depth to them. In fact, there's barely any character development to speak of. I found it hard to even care about the main character. Dog Fight Mode (DFM) while interesting at first, quickly gets repetitive. It makes it too easy to hit your targets. It constantly keeps you behind the enemy at a good angle at all times unless you're really bad at keeping the enemy in your target reticule. Mind you, you have to be really bad at that because any time you do lose track of them, DFM will pull back into their direction. After keeping them in the reticule for a few seconds, you'll get a sort of super lock on where your missiles suddenly track extremely well. The worst part about DFM is how the camera is just all over the place, especially during scripted events like construction cranes falling and nearly hitting you. Those same scripted events happen every time you do those missions. The camera also likes to stop and look at aircraft you just took down burning to pieces with oil spilling everywhere. While it looks amazing, I really don't appreciate not being able to see where I'm going. Another stupid part about this game is how when enemies lock on to you, it automatically engages DFM. Then you have to escape the enemy's line of sight and do a quick time event which then plops you right behind the enemy for an easy takedown. It just takes all the fun out of it. DFM's not even the worst part about this game though. The Chopper, Door Gunner, AC-130, and Bomber missions are all boringly executed. They feel like a chore more than anything. Not to mention how the first three mentioned are almost completely out of place for an Ace Combat game. They're not terrible, they're just tedious and boring. They should have made them separate from the main missions or even cut them out entirely. I feel like they actually hurt the replay value of this game. Those are my two major gripes with the game. Other than that I have a few minor complaints. Missions often drag on for too long. There's also a lack of enemy variety in comparison to previous entries. Heck, even the new 3DS game, Ace Combat Assault Horizon Legacy (3D Cross Rumble in Japan) had more types of enemies than this game. By the way, don't let the name you fool you. Assault Horizon Legacy is nothing like this game. It's actually a remake of Ace Combat 2 and I had much more fun with that one.
